1906 Sir Huon Kentucky Derby Victory Gold Pocket Watch Presented to Jockey Roscoe Troxler
<p>Displayed is a beautiful gold Waltham pocket watch presented to jockey Roscoe Troxier, who rode Sir Huon to victory in the 32nd running of the Kentucky Derby on May 2, 1906. Before the race, the field was reduced to just six horses when Creed was scratched. The 18 Karat watch is engraved, <span style="font-size: 10pt;">"Kentucky 32nd Derby, Sir Huon, 2:08 4/5, Roscoe Troxler, May 2, 1906." Huon won by two lengths over the filly Lady Navarre. Sir Huon also won the Latonia Derby that year. After his racing career, Sir Huon was gifted by George Long to the United States Cavalry Remount Service for use as a sire of military horses. The watch has a diameter of 2". The watch face is in outstanding condition and the watch is still running. It even has a second hand. The stunning timepiece has a front cover that shows an engraved horseshoe with a garland of flowers. That depiction represents the before-race situation. The back of the watch features a similar engraving, but a horse's head is poking through the horseshoe, signifying the winning result of the race. The Kentucky Derby began in 1875, and it is the longest consecutively run sporting event in America. The gorgeous watch is a wonderful symbol of an American classic.</span></p>
