1908 Honus Wagner PC760 Rose Postcard with "Greenfield's Chocolates" Advertising Back - Only One Known!
Truly the Honus Wagner of Baseball Postcards. From the most visually attractive set of all, the 1908 PC760 Rose postcards. But this card is most special. It not only features Honus Wagner in the same Carl Horner image used on his T206 baseball card, but is the only known Wagner specimen with the Greenfield's Delatour Chocolates advertising on verso. In fact, it may be unique in having an ad for the Delatour Hart Chocolates. We cannot find another. Retailers and manufacturers were motivated by jobbers to overprint their own advertising on backs of existing Rose postcards to promote sales. That makes these Greenfield's cards far more of a baseball card than any of the Rose postcards sans advertising. Only 14 of the Greenfields were known to exist as of last published count by respected longtime collector and Rose postcard maven Jerry Spillman. This card is the 15th, and best of all it is Wagner! Postmarked October 16, 1909 right around the time Wagner was turning the Pittsburg Pirates into World Champions in brand new Forbes Field. Condition is GD/VG but eye appeal is far greater. We chose to grade it as "Authentic" to insure our client was buying the card not the holder. A higher grade specimen without the all-important Greenfield's advertising recently brought over $20,000 at Auction. Traditionally, Greenfield's specimens bring 2-4 times what cards bring sans advertising. We'll leave the math up to you.
