1909 Pittsburgh Pirates Last Game at Exposition Park Ticket Stub - Honus Wagner Two Hits - PSA PR 1 (Pop 1 of 1 - Highest Graded)
Exceedingly rare Pittsburgh Pirates ticket stub issued for the last Pirates game held at Exposition Park on June 29, 1909. Graded POOR 1 by PSA. This is the ONLY example of this ticket (stub or full) listed in the PSA Population Report and we have never seen or heard of another. Exposition Park was home to the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1891 to 1909, and was the first National League park to host a World Series game (1903). While the field always had problems with flooding from the Allegheny River, the main reason for the Pirates leaving was its limited seating capacity of approximately 10,000. The final Pirates game at Exposition Park occurred on June 29, 1909, against the Chicago Cubs. The Pirates closed out the stadium by defeating the Cubs 8-1 in front of 5,545 fans, with Honus Wagner collecting two hits in four at bats. The next day the Pirates moved into Forbes Field, which was just the second Major League stadium (along with Shibe Park) to be constructed of steel and concrete, where over 30,000 fans showed up to christen the new stadium. Exposition Park was later home to the Pittsburgh Rebels of the 1915 Federal League, which was the last Major League baseball team to call the park home. The park was demolished a short time afterward. The ticket stub (1.25x3") displays heavy creasing and a small tear in the upper left corner.
