1910 E78 SGC Graded Complete Set
Cards from this set are rare. The card fronts are similar in format to the E79/80 cards, while the card backs are very similar to the E75/76 cards. There is no branding or manufacturers designation on E78 cards. A checklist of the 25 cards in the issue is provided on the card backs. The card of Jim Jeffries sparring with Olympic heavyweight champion Sam Berger commands a substantial premium from collectors of Jewish boxers because the E78 is Berger’s only insert issue. The example here is a tremendous one, because it is decently centered. The key card of the set is Jack Johnson, and the example here is a strong vg-ex. Johnson is so desired and so hard to find that our experts were tempted to offer it and the Berger-Jeffries separately from the rest of the set. In terms of overall condition, you are not likely to find a better set. There are a few cards in the lower third of conditions but most are mid-grade and quite a few are as strong as you are likely to find. A fun long term project would be to search out and try to upgrade the lesser cards in the group, or you could simply enjoy one of the finest boxing E sets ever assembled.
