1911-12 Imperial Tobacco C55 Hockey Set
After the success American tobacco companies had promoting their products with baseball cards, Canadian companies decided to use this marketing strategy with their National sport. One of the results was this 45-card complete C55 set. It features some of the biggest hockey stars of the day and it contains perhaps the most important hockey card in the hobby - the Georges Vezina rookie card. This example is well centered, exhibits VG corner wear but has a crease on the lower right-hand corner that breaks the paper. Grades GD. Other highlights include: #1 Moran (GD), 4 Malone (FR), 20 Taylor (VG+), 24 Cleghorn (GD), 31 Ross (GD), 38 Vezina (GD), 42 Lalonde (FR), 45 Laviolette (FR). Balance of the set averages 8% VG-EX, 46% VG, 30% GD, 16% PR-FR.
