This program is from the 1912 Olympics held in Sweden, where Jim Thorpe won gold medals in both the Pentathlon and Decathlon, only to have them stripped away by the Amateur Athletic Union for earning a small amount of money playing baseball on Sundays. Remarkably, after years of petitioning by the Thorpe family, the decision was reversed by the International Olympic Committee in 1983, and the medals were returned to Thorpe’s adult children. A great piece of Olympics history.
