1912 The Rats Cup Trophy Won by Gold Plate

1912 The Rats Cup Trophy Won by Gold Plate

Over a century old, this Rats Cup trophy was won by a horse named Gold Plate on May 4, 1912. The 26" trophy was made into a functioning lamp, and it is engraved: "The Rats Cup, Steeplechase For Qualified Hunters, About 2 Miles, Won By, Gold Plate, Ridden By, Mr. Charles Appleton" on the front, while on the back is engraved: "Meadow-Brook, Steeplechase Association, May 4th, 1912." It is somewhat ironic that this gold-plated trophy was won by a horse named "Gold Plate." The piece is in its entirety, as the top section with the bulb sockets does not come off the trophy.
