1913 Philadelphia Athletics World Series Medallion and Ribbon Presented by Harry Davis
For winning their 3rd World Series in 4 years, some members of Connie Mack's powerhouse Philadelphia Athletics were gifted the next spring by team captain and 3rd baseman Harry Davis with this precious, rare gold medallion & V-cut black ribbon set. The 1 1/4" circular medallion meticulously crafted by J.E. Caldwell & Company of Philadelphia suitably honored the hometown heroes like Eddie Collins, Home Run Baker, Eddie Plank and Boardwalk Brown. It features the team's elephant symbol perched on a ball reading "American League" between crossed bats, and "Athletics", surrounded by a purple corona reading "American Base Ball Club of Philadelphia." Back inscribed, "Presented to H.A. Wilkinson by H.H. Davis, May 1914, J.E. Caldwell & Co., Phila.", the recipient presumably a club executive. Also from that Series is a 1 x 1 3/4" press pin with a kelly green diamond design bearing the letters "BBWAA" (Baseball Writers Association of America) under crossed gold bats and between the words "World Series, Shibe Park, Phila. 1913." Rectangular pin comes with detached black ribbon. Medallion & pin both NRMT with very slight tarnishing of the gold inlays. Both ribbons also NRMT. Comes with the soft-cushioned original box from J.E. Caldwell & Company, which is G-VG with damage along foldover sections including a small removed piece that has been retained in the box and can be reattached.
