1915-1917 Bullfighting "Suit of Lights" From First North American Female Bullfighter Worn by Alejandro del Hierro

1915-1917 Bullfighting "Suit of Lights" From First North American Female Bullfighter Worn by Alejandro del Hierro

Though it didn't exactly light up like Robert Redford's "Electric Horseman" suit, this traje de luces or "suit of lights" made a lasting impression when it was worn by famous matador Alejandro del Hierro. When he was done in the ring, del Hierro handed down the suit to to Patricia McCormick, the first female bullfighter in North America, who was severely gored in the bullring in 1954 but survived. The suit consists of three pieces: talaguilla (pants), Chaquetilla (short, rigid vest) and waist coat. Includes a photo of del Hierro in his later years wearing a different outfit.
