1915 Boston Red Sox World Championship Pendant Presented to Babe Ruth‚s Roommate
This 1915 Boston Red Sox World Championship pendant was presented to first-baseman Dick Hoblitzell, the man the team assigned to room with Babe Ruth on road trips in order to be a "good influence" on the rowdy, young star. All-original and one of a kind, the jewelry features an emblem with wreath design holding a diamond at the center with "World‚s Champions 1915" surrounding it. The back of the emblem is engraved: "Richard C. Hoblitzell" and this is part two of the "Dick Hoblitzell Collection," as the World War I veteran‚s 1916 World Championship watch is also featured in this auction. The link attaching the emblem to the ribbon is stamped "14K" and "FHCo" and there is a leather ribbon with the chain at the top. Comes directly from the Hoblitzell family. Prior to his military commitment, Hoblitzell played 10 years in the majors with the Reds and Red Sox, winning two World Series with the latter.Lelands is once again pleased to offer two great lots from the collection of Babe Ruth’s former roommate, Dick Hoblitzell. Hoblitzell started his career off with the Cincinnati Reds from 1908-14 and then closed his career out with the Boston Red Sox from 1914-1918. During his time with the Red Sox, he roomed with Babe Ruth on the road and became a two-time World Series Champion in 1915 and 1916. In 1918, Hoblitzell started the season off batting 1-for-25 and was then replaced by his former roommate Babe Ruth! The family has saved the best for last as we gratefully offer Dick Hoblitzell’s treasured championship awards from two great Boston seasons.
