1915 Detroit Tigers Original Glass Plate Negative

1915 Detroit Tigers Original Glass Plate Negative

Large-format (9.75x8") glass plate negative capturing twenty-two members of the 1915 Detroit Tigers posing in front of the grandstand prior to a game. Included here are Ty Cobb, Sam Crawford, manager Hughie Jennings, Harry Coveleski (brother of Hall of Fame pitcher Stan Coveleski), Oscar Stanage, George Burns, George Moriarty, Pep Young, Ossie Vitt, Donnie Bush, and Bobby Veach. Glass plate negatives of this size are the exception rather than the rule, especially those featuring prominent Hall of Famers such as Cobb. The "Georgia Peach" was clearly the best player in baseball at the time of this negative, as evidenced by his ninth consecutive batting title (.369) and league-leading totals in hits (208), runs (144), on-base percentage (.486) and stolen bases (96), with the latter total standing as the all-time mark until 1974. The negative remains in Excellent to Mint condition. Please note: the positive image seen on our website is for illustrative purposes only and does not accompany the negative; only the negative is offered in this lot.
