1915 Newark Federal Ball Club Complete Ticket Book of 77 Tickets
Offered is an extremely rare item: A 1915 Newark Pepper Federal League Ball Club complete ticket book, with game tickets to game 1-77. This is the only complete ticket book we have seen. The Federal League was a Major League that operated for two seasons. In 1915, the Newark team finished in fifth place in the eight-team circuit. The teams in the Federal League that season, in the order of finish, starting with the first-place finisher: 1) Chicago Wolves; 2) St. Louis Terriers; 3) Pittsburgh Rebels; 4) Kansas City Packers; 5) Newark Peppers; 6) Buffalo Blues; 7) Brooklyn Tip-Tops; 8) Baltimore Terrapins. The Federal League picked off some very good players from teams in the rival National and American Leagues. Hall of Fame outfielder Edd Roush was Newark's most famous player. He played in the Major Leagues from 1913-31, hit .323 lifetime, and won two National League batting titles. The ticket book measures approx. 2x4.4". Each page in the book includes four approx. 1x2" tickets that are perforated for separation. An exception is the last page in the booklet with only one small ticket, as the earlier pages accommodated 76 tickets and the season had only one more game. Perhaps this ticket booklet (numbered 563) was printed before the Federal League schedule was complete, because each ticket is numbered, 1-77, but no date or opponent is displayed on the tickets. The ticket booklet has some partial paper loss on the back cover, and some tiny markings are evident in just a few spots. Overall, the ticket booklet is in excellent condition. Only two of these ticket books have been sold, and they are the same one. It is a great, vintage baseball rarity.
