1918 John Wagner Signed Check (PSA)

1918 John Wagner Signed Check (PSA)

John "Honus" Wagner is a baseball immortal. He is one of the five inaugural inductees into the National baseball Hall of Fame and one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Don't let the autograph of "John Wagner" fool you. "John" is just the English language equivalent of the German name Johannes (Wagner's given first name) or his nickname "Honus." What a ballplayer! Wagner amassed 3,430 lifetime hits in a 21-year Major League career, all with the Pittsburgh Pirates, or in his first three Major League seasons, Louisville. He drove in runs: 5-time RBI NL RBI Champion with 1,732 lifetime; he stole bases: 5-time NL Champion with a career 722.He could field: Wagner's career was long before the existence of the Golden Glove Award, the this great fielding shortstop would have won plenty. Wagner's check is all in his neat handwriting, done with a fountain pen, and is made out to Carnegie Auto Repairs, with a name added, in very small script, that appears to read something close to "High E. Mackin." The check is drawn on "The First National Bank of Carnegie" (Wagner lived in Carnegie, in Pennsylvania), and the check is the amount of $19.35. On the check's subject line, Wagner has written "Maintenance." The Flying Dutchman has signed his name as John H. Wagner, the same as the professionally printed name on the check. The check is dated by Wagner as May 9, 1918, in the first year of Wagner's retirement as an active player. The check has been cashed. The check is in excellent condition. It has been described by PSA/DNA as "Honus Wagner," and PSA/DNA encapsulated and graded the check "AUTHENTIC AUTO." Only a rare few collectors possess a T-206 Honus Wagner card, but available in this offering is a signed Wagner check signed by this vintage baseball titan.
