1919 Black Sox World Series Program at Chicago
This highly sought-after program comes from the most infamous World Series of all time in 1919 between the Chicago "Black Sox" and Cincinnati Reds. Much rarer than its Cincinnati counterpart, this program is from a Chicago White Sox home game at Comiskey Park, with a bust of Comiskey himself appearing on its front cover. The 1919 Series was a pivotal moment in the game, as the eight players that conspired to throw the World Series earned themselves a lifetime ban from draconian commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis, who was installed specifically to restore public confidence in the sport after the scandal broke. Five of the eight conspirators can be found listed in the lineup for the game, including "Shoeless" Joe Jackson, Arnold Gandil, Oscar Felsch, Charles Risberg and George Weaver. There has been some restoration to the cover, but it has an excellent appearance which has been beautifully and professionally done by a top Chicago outfit. There is a small chip inside, but it is otherwise in EX condition. This is one of only a handful known, and the first we have offered. Sports memorabilia doesn't get much more historically significant than this.
