1920's Clint Benedict Style Spalding Goalie Mask Signed By Jacques Plante
Clint Benedict was the first NHL goalie to wear a mask but found he couldn't play with it on. Decades later, Jacques Plante refused to play without one and forever changed the way the game was played. This early leather Spalding face mask is identical to the one first worn by Maroons netminder Clint Benedict. Ironic perhaps, that it has been signed in vintage ballpoint by Jacques Plante. Of the three Plante signature styles, this is the earliest and dates back to the 1950's. The Spalding manufacturer stamp appears on one of the three original straps. In excellent condition.
