1920 World Series Photographs (17)
The 1920 World Series featured many firsts, such as the first triple play, grand slam and home run by a pitcher as the Cleveland Indians won the best-of-nine Fall Classic, five games to two over the Brooklyn Dodgers. Just as amazing as the Series is this group of 17 photographs taken at Cleveland's League Park. They Include: fans on line, stadium views, trumpet fans, Brooklyn manager Wilbert Robinson on the bench, Tris speaker, Joe Sewell, warmups, Elmer Smith and the first pitcher homer. There are unusual formats here, and most are Cleveland-centric. Many players are wearing black armbands in honor of Ray Chapman, who was killed after being hit in the head with a pitched ball at Yankee Stadium during the season.
