This poster entitled, CELEBRITIES IN THE WORLD OF SPORT was issued in the late 1920s by the Southern Agriculturist (newspaper) of Louisville, Kentucky. This great advertising poster pictures prominent athletes of the past and present. At center is Gene Tunney, the reigning heavyweight champion. Others pictured include Jack Dempsey, Babe Ruth, Christy Mathewson, Tris Speaker, John L. Sullivan, Frank Gotch, Robert Fitzsimmons, Knute Rockne, Paavo Nurmi, Johnny Weismuller, James J.Corbett, Ty Cobb, Bobby Jones, Bill Tilden, Charles Lindberg and many others - 58 pictured in all. A paper poster in nice condition, no creases or tears, but there is minor surface wear. Bold color and sharp images, matted and professionally framed. 27" x 35.
