1920s New York City Subway Roll Sign
Wonderful piece of American folk art features hand-painted lettering on black canvas. This went at the top of the "rolling signs" on subway trains and trolleys. Stops are also hand-painted on the verso which can be seen as the backing of the frame is transparent. Stops included on the sign are; 8th Ave. Express, 8th Ave. Local, 6th Ave. Express, 6th Ave. Local, 6th Ave.- Houston Express, Special, Brooklyn - Queens Local, and Fulton St. Local. Getting rarer and rarer as many take the rolls themselves and cut up them up, frame them and sell one stop at a time.
