1922 The Queens Steeple Chase at Belmont Park Independence Day Trophy

1922 The Queens Steeple Chase at Belmont Park Independence Day Trophy

This elegant trophy comes from a golden age of horse racing in America and was presented to the winner of the Queens Steeple Chase on July 4, 1922, at Belmont Park. Though Belmont now only very infrequently puts on steeplechase events, the track once had a course devoted entirely to jump racing that was operated until 1927. The trophy reads, "The Queens, Independence Day, Steeplechase, One Mile Over Brush, Won at Safe and Sane, Fourth of July Celebration, Presented by Independence Celebration Committee of Queens and Belmont Park NY, July 4, 1922." It is silver plated and stands 11" tall with some visible surface wear. A Meriden S.P. Co" stamp can be found on the bottom.
