1923 Walker Cup Golf Sterling Silver Cigar Humidor - Presented to the President

This magnificent sterling silver cigar humidor was a presentation piece given to J. Frederick Byers who was the sitting President of The United States Golf Association in 1923. Lined with Spanish cedar, on the top are his initials J.F.B. and incised under the lid is the inscription, "Presented by The American Walker Cup Team to J. Frederick Byers in appreciation of his kindness, 1923." The Walker Cup is organized by the United States Golf Association and was named in honor of George Herbert Walker who was an ancestor (grandfather and great-grandfather) of the two American Presidents. This is a mere three years after this amateur tournament began in 1920, a historic and important piece, as Byers was an early and important proponent of golf at the time this was presented. The box measures 5.75x3.5x2.75" and weighs 395 grams. Incised on the bottom is the letter N, sterling and 49014. There are a few dings on the bottom, a scratch on the top, a few pinpoint dings on the side, overall Excellent condition.
