1923 Yankee Stadium Seat with Mickey Mantle Original "7"
This is an original stadium seat from Yankee Stadium, present for Opening Day in 1923 when the Stadium first opened. It is painted blue with previous coats showing through in places, and is a bit wobbly but still all in one piece. Mickey Mantle's number 7 is stenciled on the top slat (and a portion of seat "8" is also visible from where they were separated). The seat is accompanied by a small brass plaque mounted to the seatback from its 1973 Stadium removal engraved, "Yankee Stadium-'The House That Ruth Built'-50th Anniversary 1923-1973-Bronx, N.Y." Just one year after that anniversary celebration, the Stadium was closed for renovation and Yankees would move crosstown to play at Shea Stadium for the next two seasons.
