<span style="font-size: 13px;">Offered is a field box ticket stub to Game 2 of the 1926 World Series in which Grover Cleveland Alexander pitched a complete game four-hitter in a 6-2 Cardinals victory, part of a magnificent pitching performance by Alexander that led the Cardinals to win the World Series. </span>In 1926, Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander, who had a 373-208 lifetime record, was a mid-season waiver pick-up by the St. Louis Cardinals from the Chicago Cubs. Known as "Pete," the 39-year-old right-hander had a wonderful World Series, going 2-0 with a save in Game 7. in leading the Cardinals to a World Series triumph over the New York Yankees. Offered is a field box ticket stub to Game 2 of the 1926 World Series in which Alexander pitched a complete game four-hitter in a 6-2 Cardinals victory. In a career spanning 1911-1930, Alexander pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies, the Chicago Cubs, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He had a lifetime 373-208 record, with a 2.56 ERA. He was a 3-time winner of the Pitching Triple Crown, and he won five National League ERA titles. In Game 2, Urban Shocker was the Yankee starter and loser. The Cardinals were led offensively by a Billy Southworth three-run homer and a two-run single by Jim Bottomly. Alexander gave up his only earned run of the game on a Tony Lazzeri single in the second, and Lazzeri later scored an unearned run to complete the New York scoring. With St. Louis down 3-2 in games, Alexander kept the Cardinals alive as he also won Game 6 on the World Series, a complete game 10-2 win. Then, not expecting to pitch any more in the Series, Alexander indulged in a night of celebration, freely drinking alcohol, a long-time problem for him and one of the reasons he was put on waivers by the Cubs. With the Cardinals holding a 3-2 lead in the 7th Inning and the Yankees having loaded the bases with two out, Cardinals' player-manager Rogers Hornsby brought in Alexander to face Tony Lazzeri. After allowing a long Lazzeri drive that was only about a foot from being a grand slam, Alexander struck out Lazzeri and pitched two more shutout innings for the save and a Cardinals' World Series win. The ticket measures approx. 2.5" x 4.25". The stub has been encapsulated and graded PSA FR 1.5. The ticket stub is a valued memento for a classic World Series and a brilliant Series performance by of baseball's all-time great pitchers.
