1927 New York Yankees / Washington Senators Signed Baseball

1927 New York Yankees / Washington Senators Signed Baseball

Notes: An incredible OAL (Ban Johnson) baseball featuring an astounding 37 signatures of both the 1927 New York Yankees and the 1927 Washington Senators. The baseball was obtained by a little girl who resided in the Cooper Carlton hotel in Chicago, Illinois, where her father was the manager of the hotel restaurant. As she told the story, she was not normally allowed to eat in the restaurant with adults, but took her meals in her parents’ quarters. One morning she was allowed to go to breakfast in the restaurant, where she was greeted by a room full of baseball players. The Cooper Carlton was the hotel where visiting Major League Baseball teams stayed when they were in town playing the White Sox. Twice during the 1927 season, the Yankees and Senators made back to back road trips to Chicago, on May 9th and 10th, and on July 20th and 21st. On one of these mornings, this baseball was meticulously inscribed by a room full of some of the greatest baseball players of all time. Signatures include: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Miller Huggins (sweetspot); Tris Speaker (sweetspot), Jack Onslow (sweetspot); Ray Morehart, Bob Shawkey, Walter Johnson, Eddie Bennett (legendary Yankee batboy), Leon Riley, Wilcy Moore, Jim Patterson, Don Miller (Yankee bullpen pitcher), “Topper” Rigney, Howie Lisenbee, Dick Coffman, Myles Thomas, G. Braxton, George Pipgras, Joe Giard, Cedric Durst, Fred Marberry, Roger Peckinpaugh (a member of the Chicago White Sox in 1927, but friendly with old Senator and Yankee teammates), Earl McNeely, “Stuffy” Stewart, Herb Pennock, Jules Wera, Mark Koenig, Ben Paschal, Bennie Bengough, Mike Martin, Tom Zachary (who would eventually give up Ruth’s 60th homerun in 1927), Earle Combs, Waite Hoyt, Mike Gazella, Art Fletcher, Pat Collins and finally a probable joke signature of “Babe” Roth (an authentic Ruth signature appears on the baseball as well). LOA.

Condition: The signatures are mostly a “6/7” on a scale of “1-10” with a few better and a few worse.
