1930 Bill Arnold Indianapolis 500 Rickenbacker Trophy (19" tall)
Automobile racing awards don't get any better than this. Brilliantly crafted cup was awarded to the man who started on the pole and led 198 of 200 laps to take the checkered flag, the $36,800 purse and the trophy you see here. Engraved plaque on the face tells the story: "Indianapolis Speedway, 1930, Driver Billy Arnold, Miller-Hartz, 200 Laps, 100.4 mph." Verso holds another plaque reading "Rickenbacker Trophy" with a fantastic engraved image of Arnold's number "4" car. Detail of engraving and metalwork is remarkable; note the elegant scrolling surrounding the plaques and the sculptured faces at the tops of the handles. Aged patina only adds to its charm. As to be expected, there is some tarnishing, but nonetheless, a monumental prize in the history of race car driving. Crafted by Paiepoint Mfg. Co.
