1930 E282 Oh Boy Gum Jack Dempsey and Tom Mix SGC 30
Burdick catalogued this first Goudey set as E282 in the ACC but it is really an R card. The checklist of the set was compiled relatively recently when several collectors banded together to assemble a virtual ‘set’ on the Vintage Nonsports Cards site. The original photo has been discovered and is a publicity shot taken by Hollywood photographer Hewitt. No one can identify the guy between Dempsey and Mix, but given that the photo was taken on the Universal Studio back lot in Burbank, California, odds are it was a studio ‘suit’. E282s are rare and this is the only athlete in the set, and its unquestionable key. One of a few known examples of the card, it was last offered for sale in 2016.
