1930s-50s Enormous Collection of Dixie Lids (2,000)
Starting in 1933 and every year through 1954, Dixie Brand ice cream issued cups with pictures of popular themes on their lids. Though movie stars were usually the main attraction, the company also issued sets of baseball players (elsewhere in this auction, as a separate lot), as well as a few war-themed sets during the WW2 years.Lids can be found for many different companies, resulting in thousands of variations. Though it’s probably impossible to assemble a complete collection of lids and collectibles with all ice cream maker variations, we offer a decent start below:- 851 movie star lids, 2.25” diameter, many stars including Bob Hope, Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Jane Powell, Roy Rogers, Lewis & Martin, Gregory Peck, William Boyd, Ginger Rogers, Maureen O’Hara, etc. Complete with tabs, 90% VG to VG-EX condition, blue and brown tints.- 696 movie star lids, 2.75” diameter, many stars including Jean Harlow, Claudette Colbert, Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, W. C. Fields, John Wayne, Ginger Rogers, Peter Lawford, Roy Rogers, Betty Grable, etc. Complete with tabs, 80% VG-EX to EX condition, blue and brown tints.- 76 movie star lids, 3.25” diameter, inc. Red Buttons, Cyd Charisse, Jane Powell, Red Skelton, etc. In color, complete with tabs, mostly VG-EX to EX condition.- 19 movie star lids, 3.5” diameter, inc. John Wayne, Gregory Peck.
