1930s St. Georges School Hockey Jersey w/Amazing Crest

1930s St. Georges School Hockey Jersey w/Amazing Crest

Rarest of hockey sweaters where the sport is identified in this circa 1930s classic from the elite St. George's School in Rhode Island; you will see school letting but this is definitively hockey. Heavy duty maroon sweater has WH Brine tag on inside hem, on which is written the name "Ryo Arai," a Japanese-American student at the school in the 1930s whose family members were forced to register as "enemy aliens" during World War II, and Ryo went on to serve in US Military Intelligence. Measures 24" across the chest, front displays the white felt "SG" with crossed sticks as proof that this one was worn on the ice by a member of the school's early hockey squad. St. George's School, founded in 1896, is a private, boarding prep school in Newport, RI. If you want to know why hockey jerseys are sometimes referred to as "sweaters," this tremendous sweater provides that link to the sport's history.
