1934 Connie Mack Signed Letter and "Baseball" Cutout (PSA)

1934 Connie Mack Signed Letter and "Baseball" Cutout (PSA)

Presented is a unique Connie Mack signed "baseball," together with a short handwritten note to the original recipient in 1934, both of which have been encapsulated by PSA, with the signatures certified as "Authentic." Mack's handwritten note was written to our consignor's father and is part of a much larger autograph collection featured in this auction. Our consignor's father was a big baseball fan and his main hobby during his childhood was collecting autographs. Like most autograph collectors at the time, his main method was to write each player and enclose a prepaid self-addressed government postcard or hand-drawn card to be signed and returned. As we can see by the size of the collection, most players were more than happy to oblige. All the items from the collection are featured in this sale, including the signatures of many prominent Hall of Famers, such as Ruth, Gehrig, Wagner, and Young.

Mack's note is written on the original letter sent to him by our consignor's father, which is dated January 4, 1934. In his letter, our consignor's father asks Mack to sign the baseball cutout he has enclosed. Mack's response, written in black fountain pen (grading 9/10) on the bottom of the letter reads "Only too pleased to favor you - Connie Mack." Included is the paper baseball cutout sent to Mack, which he dutifully signed in black fountain pen (grading 9/10). The letter (8.5x11") displays one horizontal and two vertical folds. The cutout baseball (3.5 inches in diameter) displays a moderate crease near the top.
