1934 Ty Cobb Signed Handwritten Letter (PSA)

1934 Ty Cobb Signed Handwritten Letter (PSA)

One-page handwritten letter (on a fold-over sheet), dated February 10, 1934, signed by Ty Cobb. PSA has encapsulated the letter and certified the signature as "Authentic." This letter was written to our consignor's father and is part of a much larger autograph collection featured in this auction. Our consignor's father was a big baseball fan and his main hobby during his childhood was collecting autographs. Like most autograph collectors at the time, his main method was to write each player and enclose a prepaid self-addressed government postcard or hand-drawn card to be signed and returned. As we can see by the size of the collection, most players were more than happy to oblige. All the items from the collection are featured in this sale, including the high-graded signatures of many prominent Hall of Famers, such as Ruth, Gehrig, Wagner, and Young.

In his letter Cobb responds that he believes that he had already sent him an autographed card, but that he was "honored" to send another. It is signed "Very Truly Ty Cobb." Both the text and signature are boldly scripted in black fountain pen and grade 9/10. The reverse features the original letter to Cobb from our consignor's father (Cobb simply responded on the same sheet). Please note that the original signed card (in the form of a hand-drawn baseball) that Cobb returned with this letter is offered as a separate lot in this auction. The letter (10x6.5") displays a vertical and horizontal fold, as well as a few light creases.
