1936 Berlin Olympics Cut Glass "Pokal"

1936 Berlin Olympics Cut Glass "Pokal"

With Adolph Hitler looking on, the Berlin Olympic Games were designed as an outlet for the dictator to promote his government and twisted ideals of national supremacy. One of the artifacts from that worldwide event is this rare, tall drinking cup which features etched scenes of the boxing match between Imre Harangi of Hungary vs. Jose Padilla of the Philippines on the front. The 15.5" cut-crystal pokal was presented by the Austrian Olympic Fund and is so marked in German at the base. The sides are engraved with "OLYMPIA 1936" and "BERLIN BOXTURNIER" A masterful design all in cut glass, there is a small chip but otherwise in in MT condition. This may, in fact, be the only one of its kind in existence.
