1936 Berlin Summer Olympics Gold Medal
Here's an actual gold medal from the games where sports collided with politics and civil rights in an atmosphere of demagoguery and dictatorship in a soon to be warring world. This is the real thing presented at the the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Originally purchased from an Olympic expert and specialist in the '36 Games, it has remained in one private collection for the past two decades. Complete with attractive and desired original box that has the 1936 Olympics logo on the top, the medal itself is in excellent condition with only some slight tarnishing on the front. The edge is stamped, "B.H. MAYERPPORZHEIM 990." This was definitely awarded to an athlete, but over the years, that history has been lost so we are not sure exactly who this was presented to. One of the rarest and most desirable Olympic medals of all.
