1937 Honus Wagner Signed Train Menu (PSA)

1937 Honus Wagner Signed Train Menu (PSA)

1937 Pennsylvania Railroad train menu signed on the front in pencil by Hall of Fame shortstop Honus Wagner and Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Floyd "Pep" Young. Wagner has inscribed the program "Honus Wagner/Pirates Coach/1937," while Young has simply scripted his name, "Floyd Young." Both the inscription and signatures grade 8/10 overall. This menu has an interesting history. According to our consignor, it was originally obtained by her uncle, who was a semi-pro ballplayer. He lived and played in New York, but he married a woman from Canton, Ohio, so he was frequently traveling by train between the two cities over the course of the season. During one of his trips he found himself traveling with the Pittsburgh Pirates team. Instantly recognizing Wagner, he took advantage of the chance meeting by obtaining his autograph on the first item he could find, which was the train menu. The menu became a treasured heirloom and has remained in the family since that time. Wagner, who was one of the first five inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936, was a longtime coach with the Pirates, a position he held from 1933 to 1951. The menu (6.75 x 11") displays moderate toning, a few light-to-moderate creases, and a small horizontal edge tear along the right border. Both the tear and a crease touch upon the Wagner signature, but they do not significantly detract from its overall appearance. Full LOA from PSA.
