1937 The Death of Howie Morenz Photograph

1937 The Death of Howie Morenz Photograph

Perhaps the greatest hockey photograph ever taken before Bobby Orr learned to fly. Moving tribute to the recently deceased legend Howie Morenz, this shows the locker room at the Montreal Forum, a few minutes before the famed game of March 9th. Cecil Hart, the manager of the Canadiens is holding the personal stick of the man who defined superstar. Aurel Joliat, now the lone leader of the team stands looking at the empty locker of his friend and teammate. The memorabilia of Morenz fills the locker including his hanging "7" jersey. This is the only first generation vintage print of this image in private hands known. The photo is marked by the photographer in white on the front and stamped on the verso, "Famous Studio…Montreal." Some minor damage to the corners and small piece of tape stuck to the bottom edge away from the field of action. The finest hockey photo we have ever offered for sale.
