1938 AL All-Stars Signed Baseball
Stunning ball from the 1938 All-Star Game at Cincinnati's Crosley Field is signed by 24 members of the AL roster that lost 4-1 in a game marked by Leo Durocher's "home run bunt." More HOFers here than you can shake a plaque at -- Gehrig, DiMaggio, Foxx, Greenberg, Averill, Feller, Appling, Gehringer, York, Cronin, Dickey, Ruffing, Grove, Gomez, Simmons. What a godly lineup! And most of the signatures are bell-clear in black ink against a delighffully shellacked, caramel colored surface that has become two-toned with light and dark browns, seemingly as if by artistic design. Overall the sigs average 7-8 and the ball technically grades out at Good, though its display appeal is astronomical. Nothing less than dropped from the heavens.
