1938 Seabiscuit v War Admiral Match Race Photos with Gorgeous Panorama (3)

The 1938 Match Race between Seabiscuit and War Admiral was so significant that even President Franklin Delano Roosevelt took time off from the Great Depression to listen. These vintage Type I photos capture some terrific images from that event. One, measuring 9x7" depicts Seabiscuit on the outside rail by the grandstand with War Admiral in the background losing ground. Another is a Seabiscuit solo shot from the workout match, measuring 8x6". Rounding out the trio is a gorgeous 13x8" panoramic shot of the 1938 gathering, which is reported to have had 40,000 fans in attendance live and as many as 40 million listening around the globe. Better than anything we have seen this image captures the pageantry and excitement of this world class equine event.
