1939 Bob Swanson Indianapolis 500 Race Worn Goggles - Last Career Race (LOA from Swanson's Daughter)
His life was cut short due to a fatal racing accident, and these are Bob Swanson's last pair of race worn goggles. The 1939 Indianapolis 500 winner, Swanson was involved in a crash and was thrown from his car, while another car he collided with claimed the life of defending champion Floyd Roberts. Swanson survived the traumatic ordeal, but it would prove just a temporary bit of good fortune as he, himself, would die a year later while qualifying for a midget car race. The goggles show vintage wear and the lenses are slightly detached from the goggles, but still intact. The lot comes with a photo of Swanson wearing the same goggles, and acts as a photo-match. The LOA is signed and written by Swanson's daughter "Bobbi," in which she mentions "this is the last picture that was taken before he overturned in the south corner."
