1939 Hugh Casey Signed George Burke Photo

1939 Hugh Casey Signed George Burke Photo

The signature of Hugh Casey, one of sports' hardest-luck victims, is also one of sports' hardest-to-find autographs. Some say it's nearly impossible to find it on anything but a team ball. One reason is that Casey died young, his fate seemingly charted in Game 4 of the '41 World Series when, leading 4-3 with two outs in the ninth, he whiffed the Yankees' Tommy Henrich, but the ball got by Mickey Owens, sparking a game-winning rally. He never got over it and eventually committed suicide in 1951. This "striking" 4 x 6" photo of Casey in 1939 was signed in black fountain pen. Signature is 9/10, the lightly browned photo is EX-NRMT. LOA.
