1939 Josh Gibson Signed Player's Contract
Amazing "Liga Semi-Profesional de Baseball de Puerto Rico" contract presented to Josh Gibson to play for the Santurce Baseball Club for the 1939/40 season. Signed "Joshua Gibson" as "Jugador" and also by former Negro League player Dick Seay as a witness. It looks like Josh started signing his name forming one "J" but the pen was short on ink so he loaded up and started again creating a signature that remains a "7.5" out of 10 in strength. Dated Sept 13, 1939. Contract has some minor edge tears and fold lines. There are also some punch holes at the top as was standard as they were filed by the league in binders. Authentic Gibson signatures are extremely rare and there are only a few signed legal documents known to exist. A rare opportunity to say the least. .
