1939 Lynn Patrick Oil on Canvas (Ex-Patrick Family)
This exceptional offering is one of the finest hockey works of art we have ever seen, with the added bonus of being historically important. The illustration is of Lynn Patrick, part of the Patrick family that has been hockey royalty nearly since the game's inception, and was done by Walter G. Ratterman, who was a famous artist in the early 20th century. Many of Ratterman's works were published in magazines, books, and news articles. This particular piece was made for Lynn Patrick and was used to accompany a piece written by Lynn's father, Lester, in "This Week" magazine. A color supplement also appeared in the New York Herald Tribune. Lynn played 10 seasons in the NHL with the New York Rangers, with whom he won a Stanley Cup in 1940. Following his playing career, Lynn became a coach and later a general manager, and was posthumously inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1980, where his father Lester, uncle Frank, and son Craig are also enshrined. The illustration was obtained directly from the Patrick family via Craig and comes with the original article. It has been framed to 31.4x38.5". Until very recently, it hung in the Patrick home as a precious heirloom. This is an amazing piece with a great family connection.
