1939 New York Yankees Team Signed First Day Cover (PSA)
Displayed is a June 12, 1939, First Day stamped envelope signed by 22+ New York Yankees players and coaches. The '39 Yankees went 106-45 in the regular season to win the American League pennant, and the Bronx Bombers swept the Cincinnati Reds to win the World Series. The great Lou Gehrig would only play eight games that season, as his body was already feeling, unknown to all, the debilitating effects of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) disease. There is a secretarial Lou Gehrig autograph, most likely because the Iron Horse was not available to sign the 3,6x6.5" envelope. The signature of Yankees manager Joe McCarthy is also secretarial. Hall of Famers: Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dickey, Lefty Gomez, Joe Gordon, Charles "Red" Ruffing. Also, Babe Dalgren, Oral Tom Heinrich, Hildebrand, Monte "Hoot" Pearson, Steve Sundra, Buddy Rosar, Bump Hadley, Marius Russo, Charlie Keller, Red Rolfe, Johnny Murphy, Spud Chandler. Frankie Crosetti, Atley Donald, Bill Knickerbocker, Art Fletcher (coach), and Earl Combs (coach). The envelope has the new First Day Issue 3 cent stamp depicting youngsters playing vintage baseball. The envelope and attached stamp are in excellent condition. The five Hall of Fame signatures make the signed envelope a fine collectible. The signed envelope comes with a PSA LOA.
