1939 Rawlings 100th Anniversary of Baseball Calendar
A vintage and glorious observance of the last one hundred years of baseball, <i>that is 1839 - 1939</i>, on this large (21 x 27 ?”) Rawlings wall calendar. A wonderful display item that contains full 1939 calendar attached at bottom. Centered towards top is piece’s dominant image, an elegant and densely colored rendition of the “Grand Match for the Championship, at the Elysian Fields, Hoboken, N.J.” Below this are the 1938 World Series participant’s stats - the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs - and a chronological history of baseball. Assembled around the sides are a series of sepia-toned head-shots of baseball immortals and Hall of Famers of 1939, such as George Wright, John McGraw, Hans Wagner, Cy Young, Christy Mathewson, Connie Mack, Nap Lajoie, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson and Tris Speaker. Especially noteworthy are the “additional records, historical data, and pictures” located on the back, and that’s a lot of small print. EX.
