1940 Gum Inc Superman Complete Set (72)
Seldom offered as a complete set, this collection offers many high quality pasteboards from Gum Inc’s iconic Superman issue. Produced in 1940 in two series, it quickly became a very sought after collectible – after all, everyone loved Superman. All cards in this set are difficult to find in nice condition, but the 24 “high numbers” are especially tough. In fact, cards 49-72 are so elusive that for many years, hobbyists believed this was only a 48-card set! For the first series (1-48), #1 is a strong VG-EX, with slight discoloration on the right obverse; the remaining 47 cards grade 6 NM, 11 EX-MT, 7 EX, 10 VG-EX, 12 VG, and 1 lesser. For the high numbers, cards grade: 3 EX, 3 VG-EX, 9 VG and 8 lesser, with the last card in the set (#72), grading VG+.NOTE: approx. 1/3 of the cards (mostly low #’s) have some staining/discoloration on the obverse.A great set just as is, or upgrade about 10 cards and have yourself a real beauty!Total: 72 cards.
