1940 Superman Near Complete Set (56/72)
Missing only 16 cards (of 72) for completion, this collection offers many high quality pasteboards from Gum Inc’s iconic Superman set. Produced in 1940 in several series, it quickly became a very sought after collectible – after all, who didn’t like Superman? All cards in this set are difficult to find in nice grade, but especially elusive are the 24 “high numbers”. In fact, card #’s 49-72 are so elusive that for many years, hobbyists believed this was only a 48-card set! From the first 48, cards grade: 2 EX+, 8 EX, 10 VG-EX, 8 GD-VG, 10 slightly lesser (inc. #1 (GD, creases). From the high numbers, cards grade: 2 EX+, 3 EX, 2 VG-EX, 7 GD-VG and 4 slightly lesser. Missing are cards 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 19, 29, 43, 45, 49, 53, 60, 65, 67 and 72. A great start to assembling a very presentable set of Gum / Superman – including 18 from the super tough high-number series. Here’s your chance!
