1940s Baltimore Orioles Payroll Checks (57)

Salvaged from the famed Baltimore Stadium Fire on July 4, 1944 come these checks paid to various companies and individuals. The best examples are seven that include Hall of Famer George Weiss. Some of the items show charring on the edges. PSA encapsulated. The fire totally destroyed the wooden bandbox known as Oriole Park but ignited a desire for a major league franchise that would materialize a decade later. Prior to the St. Louis Browns' move to Baltimore in advance of the 1954 season, there were two other Baltimore Orioles teams that played at the AAA minor league level. The first one lasted from 1903 to 1911, and the second existed from 1914 to 1953.
