1941 Mickey Owen World Series Game Original Negatives (7)
One of the most important plays in World Series history shown here in their original form for the first time. Three negatives from “The Play” where Mickey Owen dropped a called third strike from Hugh Casey, which would have ended the game in a Dodger victory and a Series tie. They allowed batter Tommy Henrich to scoot to first base and open the floodgates for a torrent of Yankee runs, which ended in Yankee World Series Game 4 victory. The age-old question was whether pitcher Casey crossed him on the signs or not. Images include: 1) Classic shot of used to price the famed wire photo of Owen going to the backstop while Henrich scoots to first (5x7”, has a chip and a crack that does not affect the area reproduced in the famous wire photo). We have seen this piece reported umpteen times. 2) Original art negative used to make the actual wire photograph from the same neg in #1 (4x5”). 3) Famous neg of the ball passing the plate while DiMaggio is in mid-stroke. 5x7”. 4-7) Four other crowd shots of Yankee Stadium from during the game but not the Owen play. Beautiful views of the stadium are all 5x7”. Original envelope included.
