1941 Ted Williams Signed Life Magazine (JSA)

1941 Ted Williams Signed Life Magazine (JSA)

Presented is a Ted Williams signed copy of the Sept. 1, 1941, Life magazine, with Hall of Famer Williams, known as "The Kid," on the cover. The magazine measures 10.5x14", and it has (including covers) 84 pages. Williams' smiling face is featured on the cover and Life contains a two-page article, titled "No.1 Batter," about Williams and his hitting techniques, on pages 43-44. The article on Williams includes 10 black & white photos, showing all parts of his grip, swing and follow-through. The article shows that Williams had a good chance to hit .400 that season. Going into a meaningless double-header on the last day of that '41 season, Williams was hitting .3996, which would have been rounded off to .400, and Williams would have had not only the batting title, but a magical .400 average. Disdaining backing into a .400 season by sitting out the double-header, Williams put everything on the line and played, going 6-for-8 to finish at .406, still being the last player in MLB to bat .400. In a little over three months from the official date of this magazine's release, the United States was bombed at Pearl Harbor and entered World War II. The magazine has numerous photos and facts about the coming war, which was already underway in Europe. Williams would miss 1943-45 as a U.S. Marine combat pilot in World War II, and he missed about another two years as a pilot during the Korean Conflict. He had a .344 lifetime batting average, with six AL batting titles and 521 career homers, all for the Boston Red Sox. Williams signed the magazine cover by using a blue fiber-tip marker and "The Kid" neatly signed, in his usual big and bold manner. The magazine is in good condition, with some small paper loss in various areas, especially the front cover. The signed magazine comes with a full JSA AOL (cert. #XX1885) for the signature as well as a National Sports Autograph Network Registration Certificate #A251672.
