1942 Walter Johnson Signed Check (PSA)
Displayed is a signed check from pitcher Walter Johnson, an Inaugural Baseball Hall of Famer. "The Big Train" was a pitcher whose exceptionally long arms enabled the right-hander to use a whip-like motion to propel fastballs past hitters. Johnson spent his entire 21-year Major League career with the Washington Senators. He had a 417-279 lifetime record, and his MLB win total stands second only to Cy Young's victory total of 511. Johnson still has the Major League record for shutouts, with 110. Johnson helped the Senators to the 1924 World's Championship, and was a 5-time AL ERA leader, with a lifetime 3,509 strikeouts. Johnson also managed the Senators from 1929-32, and the Cleveland Indians from 1933-35. The signed check was drawn on the Germantown (Maryland) Bank in the amount of one hundred eleven dollars and 20 cents ($111.20). The check was dated January 10, 1942, and written using a fountain pen, with two separate ink colors (a light blue for the signature and a dark blue for the other handwritten details) and made out to "Griffith and Griffith." Johnson has signed as "Walter Johnson." The check measures 2.75x6.1". A very small portion of the upper left of the check is missing. The check has been cashed and it has been encapsulated and PSA certified "AUTHENTIC AUTO."
