1943 Dummy Hoy Handwritten "Three Men Out" Letter (PSA)

1943 Dummy Hoy Handwritten "Three Men Out" Letter (PSA)

A lifetime .288 hitter who walked about three times more than he struck out, William Elsworth “Dummy” Hoy was also an excellent base runner (scoring over 100 or more runs seven times) and base stealer. The speedy centerfielder also holds the distinction of being one of a handful of players who can boast of having played in four different Major Leagues and is one of just three outfielders in Major League history to throw out three base runners at home plate in one game. In this wonderful one-page handwritten and signed letter (two sides), Hoy writes to a friend for evidence to corroborate his “three-man throw out from the outfield in a game of mine innings in Washington on June 19, 1889” and closes with “help me untangle that throw-out-at-the-plate to the satisfaction of every doubting Thomas.” Signed “Wm E Hoy.” NRMT black fountain pen, customary folds, and original mailer (with return address cut out). Comes certified by PSA.
