1944 Mickey Cochrane "All Time All Star Award" Presented by the Ford Motor Company

1944 Mickey Cochrane "All Time All Star Award" Presented by the Ford Motor Company

Two of the most vital Motown moguls are well-represented in this stately trophy, which was presented by legendary car manufacturer Henry Ford to Hall of Fame catcher Mickey Cochrane six years after he retired from the game. The wood and metal trophy stands nearly 22" tall and is in EX condition. The gold plaque on the base reads: "FORD MOTOR CAR COMPANY TROPHY PRESENTED TO GORDON "MICKEY" COCHRANE, ALL-TIME ALL-STAR CATCHER, JULY 5TH, 1944." Research indicates that this award was not given to Cochrane prior to a Tigers home game as the team was in Boston that day. But whatever the venue, this is a tremendous honor bestowed upon one Detroit legend to another as Ford designed the Model T around the turn of the century and modernized the assembly line method of automobile manufacturing that is still in use today. Cochrane - who was a brilliant defensive catcher and lifetime .320 hitter - was the greatest backstop of his time and awards of his simply do not exist.
