1945-46 Junior Hockey Player of the Year Trophy Presented to Bev Bentley

Presented is the 1945-46 Junior Hockey Player of the Year Trophy that was presented to Bev Bentley, a goalie, and a member of one of hockey's most famous families, the Bentleys. Three of Bev's uncles played in the NHL, and two of them were Hall of Famers. Max Bentley, HOF, was a center who played from 1940-54 with the Chicago Blackhawks, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers. Max scored 245 goals and added 299 assists for 544 points in his 638-game career. Max led the NHL in scoring when with Toronto in 1956-46, he won the Hart Trophy that season, and he won four Stanley Cups with the Maple Leafs. His bother Doug was also a Hall of Famer, and Doug was a left wing who played from 1939-54, all but one season with the Chicago Blackhawks and then a season with the New York Rangers. Doug scored 217 goals and added 314 assists for 531 points in his 545-game career, and in 1942-43, he scored 73 points to lead the NHL in scoring. Brother Reg Bentley also played in the NHL. The left wing played 11 games for the Chicago Blackhawks in 1942-43, and for a very brief time the Bentleys formed a line for the Blackhawks. Bev's father, Roy, did not play in the NHL, but he was a coach of many teams on numerous levels. Bev played 618 games in the Western Hockey League with the Vancouver Canucks, New Westminster Royals, Seattle Bombers, Saskatoon Quakers, Victoria Cougars, Seattle Totems, and the San Francisco Seals. The top portion of the trophy is sliver plated. Words on this plaque are "Vern Insley/Junior Hockey Trophy/Annual Competition/To the Outstanding Junior Hockey Player." The plaque on the base is silver plated. This plaque reads " 1944 Ron Koehle/ 1945-46 Bev Bentley". The trophy measures 4.5x4.5" at the base and it strands 15.75" tall. The trophy is in excellent condition, and it has very enhanced value since it originally came from the Bentley Family.
